I have chosen my artistic inspiration for the 90’s issue. David Carson. Did you know he used to be a pro surfer? I also stumbled on this good article about magazine trends.

60’s-esquire

70’s-rolling stone

80’s-the face

90’s-ray gun.

David Carson led the experimental/distressed trend, which came from Neville Brody in the 80’s (post-modernsim, destroying the grid etc). This became the mainstream, as everything ‘cool’ eventually does and when even GQ was doing this look, ‘design’ mags like wallpaper stripped everything back and went minimal (end of the 90’s-early 2000’s)

EDIT (31/5)-looks like he’s not so popular anymore...at least at type conferences
