There’s a few balls out insane things happening this week on the internet.
1. David Blaine electrifies himself for no good reason. This sounded cool, but after watching a few seconds of the live stream ended up boring as hell. IBM plastered their name all over the stunt (the channel is named “the ultrabook experience”), yet the SEO was so bad I had to click through 2 blog posts to find it. I wonder why Blaine did this as it definitely cheapens his brand. Is it so they paid for the whole thing?
- (The better one) Red Bull Stratos. “Supported by a team of experts Felix Baumgartner plans to ascend to 120,000 feet in a stratospheric balloon and make a freefall jump rushing toward earth at supersonic speeds before parachuting to the ground.” My only concern with this campaign is the high risk that Felix’s blood will boil, or something else gruesome and Red Bull’s name is all over it. Having said that, by sponsoring so many extreme athletes they face that risk everyday so I’m thinking they’ve gone all in and made sure it’s a big success: and gets as much publicity as they can squeeze from it. As a brand they’ve been consistently raising the bar for extreme sports and freefalling from space seems like a logical progression to me.
Sidenote: I liked this facebook extension of accepting an event rather than “sharing”. For an ething like this it’makes sense for people oto recieve notifications about it.
